The first thing I did was add a pure black background with the paint bucket tool.

Next, I got my photo of the model dropped it in my Photoshop and edited it how I thought it looked best. I used the Ellipse tool to give myself a circle and made a clipping mask on the layer of the model to give me a circular cut around his face which allowed me to adjust the image a lot easier.

Once I was happy with my model, I began working on the text. I added the main cast first so I got a judgement for where the rest of the text should go. I used the Bebas Neue font with a golden stroke around it and changed the font colour to black to match the background to give it this effect.

After this, I added a credit block which I had made in a pervious lesson. I used the Steel Thongs font to get the correct layout of a professional credit block.

Once I was happy with the placement of the credit block, I added the main title. Using the Bebas Neue font again to keep a recurring factor in the poster. Once again, I added a golden stroke and changed the main text colour to black to give it this effect.

Furthermore, I added some text on top of all the layers to give the audience some knowledge into what the film is about. This is the text which is going to stand out when looking at the poster from a distance which will grab people's attention.

In addition to adding this text, I added some guides to make sure that the text and images were lined up either to the centre of the page or to the sides using the rule of thirds.

Finally, I moved some text around to ensure there was a gap between the edges of the poster and the text. Furthermore, I added some famous logos to make the photos to make it look more professional and realistic.

This is what my poster would look like on a billboard out in the open.

Textual Analysis of Poster

My poster began with the idea of an Action / Adventure genre. This has stuck throughout the whole process of making the poster. Alternatively, I stuck with the idea of having a fairly dark poster mixed with a type of light to the poster. I believe I certainly stuck to this idea very well, as the entire background is as dark as possible and the face in the poster represents the lighter side to the poster. On the other hand, my Target Audience was for teenagers around the age of 14-19 year olds. Aiming towards both genders, as the film includes both types of genders and is not based on a certain sex throughout the film.

My process of making the poster began with a couple of different designs. My first idea of a design was to have a broken city in the future on one side of the poster and have a deserted desert from the past on the other. I decided against this idea as I didn't think it quite matched the look of the film which I was going for. However, during the process of that first idea, I was also going to have a close up shot of my main character in the centre, splitting both of the different locations. I really liked the idea of having the main character in the centre of my poster, as I thought it would draw peoples attention. Therefore, in my final poster I made sure that I kept this idea, so that I had something from my first idea in my final poster. Due to this, I feel that my poster has some originality to it from my original idea.

Throughout the process of making my poster, I come across some obstacles which were though to get through. For example, my first obstacle was figuring out the best way to crop the characters hair so that it looked realistic and less Photoshopped. I tried many different methods, and none of them seemed to do a good enough job for my liking. Alternatively, I thought of the idea of altering the characters contrast, bringing it down slightly so that their hair was very dark, still having a realistic looking skin colour. This allowed me to have a completely black background so that I could have this cool looking effect where it seems although the character is coming out of a black room and has only his face showing.

During my creation of the poster, I found that there were some things that went as I planned and some things that didn't quite go as I wanted. One of the things that went as I planned would have to be when I made the text have a glowing effect with a black middle. To begin with, I couldn't work out how to make this effect come to life. However, with the act of trying and failing, I eventually found the best possible way to make it happen. I began by trying to have two different layers of text with different colours, but it looked off and wasn't quite centred properly and I didn't feel comfortable with it. However, on my second attempt on trying to figure it out, I worked out that it was really simple. I changed the main colour to black and added a stroke on the text which gave me the exact effect in which I was going for from the beginning.

On the other hand, there was not much during the process which didn't quite go to plan. The main thing was the fact that for some weird reason, Photoshop wouldn't allow me to centre all of my work. Still to this time, I cannot figure out what the reason was behind this not working. However, after many times of a combination of restarting Photoshop and my Mac. Finally, it worked in the end. However, that was my only real main problem. I didn't really come across anything else major during the process of making my poster.
